There is a wide range of electric or engine pumps. Engine pumps are Mostly used for irrigation; electric pumps more for domestic use.<\/p>\n

Advantages compared to hand pumps<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  • – Much more pump volume<\/li>\n
  • – Can pump up to elevated water tanks<\/li>\n
  • – Has a high pressure and can be used\u00a0for sprinklers and elevated storage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Disadvantages compared to hand pumps<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    • – Much more expensive<\/li>\n
    • – Needs daily investment gasoline or diesel<\/li>\n
    • – More complicated use, maintenance<\/li>\n
    • – Engine pumps are suction pumps so\u00a0can only lift water from maximum 7\u00a0meters deep in Tube wells. ( in open hand dug wells pumps can be lowered , see lower Photo)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • In hand dug open wells, pumps can be lowered so depths where suction pumps can be uses can be 10 meters or more<\/li>\n
      • Pump capacity; 2 \u2013 10 cubic meters \/ hour<\/li>\n
      • Cost : 150 – 350 US$<\/strong><\/li>\n
